  • Foreigners living and working in Vietnam, who already own their home country driving licenses which are issued and recognized by their home countries and wish to drive a vehicle in Vietnam.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Foreigners who bring their vehicles into Viet Nam with a period of 3 months or longer, have got valid car vehicle driving licenses, motor vehicle driving license, and demand to commute in Vietnam.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Vietnamese citizens residing abroad, having driving licenses that issued by a foreign country and still valid, they wishes to drive a vehicle in Vietnam after returning their country.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Conditions to convert an international driving license to a Vietnamese driving license:<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

    HOW TO CONVERT AN INTERNATIONAL DRIVING LICENSE TO A VIETNAMESE DRIVING LICENSE FOR FOREIGNER<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

    According to Point G, Clause 5, Article 37 of Circular 12\/2017\/TT-BGTVT regulating the renewal of driving license as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Foreigner has a Diplomatic or Official Identity Card, Permanent Residence Card, Temporary Residence Card, stay permits with the period of more than 3 months<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Foreigner has a valid national driving license showing the vehicle class is allowed to drive. There is no sign of erasing or tearing as or difference in identification;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      All cases of converting an international driving license to a Vietnamese driving license – issued by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transportation, the applicants just need to show up and take a photo for verification – Attending classes or taking exams are not required.<\/span><\/p>\n

      How long is the validity of a Vietnamese driving license for foreigners?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

      Accodding to Clause 1, Article 41 of Circular No. 12\/2017\/TT-BGTVT regulating:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        \n
      • The applicant prepare a dossier and sends it directly to the Department for Roads of Vietnam or the Department of Transport (where he\/she registered for temporary residence or permanent stay).<\/span><\/li>\n
      • For a Vietnamese applicant who present a driving license that has been consular legalized or international driving license in accordance with the law on consular certification and legalization, except the exempting cases regulated under the provisions of this Law.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • While carrying out the procedure to convert a driving license, the driver must take a photo directly at the Department of Transportation and present his\/her valid passport, visa, temporary residence card, documents verifying long-term residence in Vietnam and international driving license to confront.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        In some suspicious cases, the Department of Transportation shall send a written request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security, the Immigration Department of the provincial and municipal Police Departments to verify the information.<\/span><\/p>\n

        \u00a0<\/span>The processing time to convert an international driving license to a Vietnamese driving license is no later than 10 working days from the date the application is completely collected.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Detailed application to convert an international driving license to a Vietnamese driving license case by case:<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

        CASE 1: If the applicant is a foreigner\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

        Print 2 copies of each of the following documents, all is on 1 side only:<\/span><\/p>\n

        \u21d2 Passport data pages<\/span><\/p>\n

        \u21d2 Valid visa with its validity more than 3 months or a temporary residence card<\/span><\/p>\n

        \u21d2 Page with recent entry stamp<\/span><\/p>\n

        \u21d2 Current Vietnamese driving license (if any)<\/span><\/p>\n

        \u21d2 International driving license<\/span><\/p>\n

        The original documents mentioned in item 1 (from 1.1 to 1.5)<\/span><\/p>\n

        CASE 2: If the applicant is Vietnamese<\/strong><\/h3>\n
